On Monday, the 4th, the National Assembly will hold a joint meeting of its Specialized Working Committees to discuss and vote on the details of the Draft Law Against False Information on the Internet.

The information was confirmed to JA Online by an official source from the Angolan parliament. The document, which aims to regulate the circulation of false content in the digital space, thus enters a decisive phase of its legislative process, with detailed analysis by the specialized committees before proceeding to a final vote.

The bill comes at a time when misinformation and so-called fake news have gained increasing prominence in Angola, with a direct impact on public opinion, social stability, and political debate.

The approval of a specific legal framework for this phenomenon would place Angola among the African countries with legislation dedicated to combating digital disinformation.

The debate surrounding this bill has generated anticipation, both among advocates for greater regulation of the digital space and among voices warning of the need to ensure that the new legislation does not limit freedom of expression and of the press in the country.
